About me

I'm Stijn Hoegaerts. I've been a CIO for many years — today at BMT, previously at Climagroup and Van Marcke — and before that held senior IT leadership roles at Barco and Unilin.

One thing has stayed with me throughout: technology is never the goal, it's a means to move businesses forward. A good IT strategy translates into a better business strategy, and vice versa. That sounds obvious, but in practice, that balance is exactly what's often missing — and it's where I try to make a difference.

With Quiver Tree Projects, I want to put that experience to broader use. Not by stepping away from my day-to-day role as CIO at BMT, but by taking on, alongside it, work for others facing similar IT-related questions: a board looking for an experienced IT voice, a CEO who wants a sounding board for their digital strategy, or an organisation choosing a partner or software package who doesn't want to rely solely on a vendor's polished slides.

After 25 years in IT, I still don't consider myself a pure technologist. My background in economics and my broad range of interests have shaped me at least as much as the technology itself. That comes through in one conviction that runs through everything I do: you don't do "IT" because it's technologically possible, you do it because it's meaningful for the organisation. That order — asking "why" first, "how" second — is exactly what I bring to a boardroom, a sparring conversation or a selection process.
